Cubs top prospect Eloy Jimenez is expected to miss at least three weeks with a bone bruise in his right shoulder, according to general manager Jed Hoyer. Jimenez injured the shoulder after making an irregular throw against the Brewers last Tuesday. Jimenez previously experienced soreness in the shoulder prior to the Tuesday game, which Hoyer said may have contributed to the injury. According to Cubs reporter Carrie Muskat, there’s no structural damage.
Jimenez had an excellent spring, hitting .321 with an impressive .607 SLG and four extra base hits, including two homers. The 20-year-old was cut from the Spring Training roster on Friday. He is expected to join the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Southern League to start his 2017 season.
